Core Competencies

The Financial Fitness Coach Program fully integrates counseling and coaching skills. Upon completion, Financial Fitness Coaches will have the depth of knowledge and skills that allow them to meet clients wherever they are in their financial life, identify their financial goals, and collaborate with them to develop an action plan and appropriate steps to achieve those goals.

Coaching Competencies 

  1. Establish Agreement and Engagement
    • Describe the coaching relationship
  2. Conduct Discovery
    • Explore a client’s values
    • Define a client’s goals; determine why the goal matters to the client
    • Use appropriate assessment tools to establish client’s current situation, where applicable
  3. Create an Action Plan
    • Brainstorm possible strategies to attain goals
    • Implement assessment of current situation into strategies to attain goals
    • Understand how to turn goals into action plan
    • Establish what, when and how (What will you do? When will you do it? How will I know?)
  4. Establish Accountability
    • Use appropriate coaching language to facilitate the client's choosing an accountability agreement
    • Foster mutual commitment based upon client-initiated accountability plans
    • Define how and where progress is tracked
    • Ensure the steps are consistent with goal success or stated desired outcome
    • Review assessment periodically to determine progress
  5. Manage Progress
    • Celebrate successful achievement of the goal
    • Reestablish new goals where appropriate
  6. End the Coaching Relationship
    • Look back at what has been accomplished
    • Determine what’s next for the client
    • Assess the coaching and client satisfaction
    • Conclude the relationship
