FPA Connect: Financial Foundations for K-12 Teacher Training

January 19, 2017 @ 12:00 - 1:00 PM ET

1 CEU for AFCPE® Professionals
Open to AFCPE & FPA Members

The Jump$tart Teacher Training Alliance was created in response to independent and widely quoted research finding that relatively few teachers felt adequately prepared to teach personal finance or use their state’s standards. In partnership with the National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE®), Jump$tart launched the Jump$tart Financial Foundations for Educators (J$FFE) training model in 2013 to focus on a learner-centric approach to building teacher’s confidence.

In this presentation, Amina Carter, Operations Manager at Jump$tart will address the:

·       important research around the need for early childhood financial education & effective training for K-12 teachers who are providing financial education to students.

·       value of a training program that goes beyond teaching techniques, providing teachers with instruction of personal finance concepts, information and behavior so that teachers have the tools and confidence to implement positive financial management in their own lives – and then to the students in their classroom.

·       opportunities for financial counselors, educators and planners to provide subject matter expertise in trainings for their communities.

·       steps to implement a teacher training in your own community.
