Position Description
- Looking for a nimble individual to engage, with and connect, underinvested people and places with public and private resources that support access to opportunities every person deserves. Seeking a servant leader to harness his/her expertise in attracting and supporting individuals and community groups with the resources needed to thrive in a financial empowerment center setting. The right candidate will be successful at attracting participants to events and provide individual financial education coaching and/or counseling to clients on their financial wellness journey.
Roles/Responsibilities
This person must demonstrate a welcoming and non-judgmental attitude and commitment to equity efforts. Use a creative mindset to confidently provide regular programming that engages and encourages participants to evolve and expand their understanding & use of financial empowerment tools and information. Offer one-to-one financial coaching or counseling sessions. While respecting their fiduciary role, a successful candidate will:
- Conduct intentional outreach and recruitment of participants to the center.
- Organize 10-12 workshops monthly using a combination of in-person, virtual, or hybrid options.
- Host in-person office hours at designated site 3 days a week.
- Commit to 20-30 working hours per week.
- Complete and submit accurate data submissions.
- Listen: to clients. Understand their wants and needs. Craft data driven goals with them.
- Innovate: utilize best practices for financial education practitioners and consumers from reputable sources. Diversity of thought, expression, and engagement is highly valued.
- Envision: holistic approach of consumer financial wellness including areas such as banking access, affordable housing, workforce development, etc.
- Impact: Support consumers and communities around the financial empowerment center as a trusted financial capability expert.
Time Commitment/Availability
- 20-30 hours per week for 5 months.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or another suitable requirement.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial education field.
- Demonstrated understanding of consumer financial education fundamentals such as budgeting, credit building, basic banking products, federal consumer laws and regulations.
- Ability to provide financial education and coaching/counseling services in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Excellent communication (written & verbal) and organizational skills.
- Independent thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and proven ability to prioritize effectively.
- Proficient computer skills, especially with MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.
- Solid and tested in-person and virtual program and/or event management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bi- or multi-lingual candidates desired.
- Accredited Financial Counselor, Certified Financial Planner, or other relevant designations or certifications from industry recognized organizations strongly preferred.
- Experience with VITA, workforce development and/or housing counseling highly desired.
- A Bachelor’s Degree may be used to substitute two years of work experience.
**As with most roles, this opportunity includes some responsibilities that are not eligible for AFC experience hours. Time spent on outreach and recruitment of participants, as well as reporting and data submissions, would not be approved for experience hours.**
